morepork
Walt - Write persuasive writing about a New Zealand native bird
Hi my name is Cameron, and today I am going to tell you all about the New Zealand native bird the morepork. I will tell you about its habitat, it’s diet and it’s appearance. I hope you enjoy
The Morepork or Ruru as it is also known, is New Zealand’s native owl. Morepork are commonly found in forests in open regions of Canterbury and Otago. They are classified as a non threatened bird, this means that the morepork is healthy and they won’t be endangered any time soon.
Now I will tell you about their diet. Morepork eat large insects such as the weta, huhu beetles, moths, mice, rats, spiders, small birds, caterpillars, scarab which is a type of beetle. I think that is a good diet for a morepork, I might try it one day. I feel that the morepork should be protected because they eat some of the pests of new Zealand .
Finally I am going to tell you about the Morepork appearance. It has Pale brown spots on its head and neck with white on the upper and lower body. Moreporks are a type of owl. They make a noise like their name - that is why they are called morepork. Very clever I think.
I hope I have persuaded you to protect the morepork. You know now what they eat, what they look like and where they look. Listen out for them by their unique call. Thank you for listening.
